Road tripping Norway is one of the best travel experiences we have ever had.
It's no wonder we keep returning.
We spent more than a month there back in 2018, spent more time in 2022 & 2023 and can honestly say it's one of the most camper/motorhome-friendly countries in Europe.
With ample wild camping spots across the country. The roads are also in perfect condition, and if you do get the chance to visit in winter, then I 100% recommend it.
Just be sure to get 4WD, like we did.
Thankfully, there are tonnes of great campervan and motorhome rental firms in Norway.
Located all across the country from Northern Norway to the south.
And in this guide I want to give a good overview of the very best ones around, as well as which company might offer the best vans for your needs.
Let's get started!

We've been renting campers now since 2019, as well as even converting our own campervan that we drove halfway round the world.
We've tried everything through from small compact Volkswagens, to larger 4x4 camper hybrid Toyota Hilux's.
Which strangely enough is what we first drove through Norway in.
Across mainland Europe alone we've spent more than 18 months van traveling, discovering many different rental brands.
We have gained a solid idea of not just what sorts of vehicles suit different travelers, but also what rental companies are to be trusted.
Below I've combined our experience along with visiting dozens of sites, to analytically explain which brands are best suited for renting a campervan or motorhome in Norway.
Along with top tips on how you can get the absolute best price possible on your chosen rental.
Let's get straight into it.
If you want the short, practical answer .. I’d say you need to focus on the van setup first, not the rental company.
Why?
For Norway, most travellers will have the best experience in a campervan or motorhome that has:

Norway’s scenery is spectacular, but distances are long, weather changes quickly, and nights can be cold even outside winter. As we found very often during our longest trip here.
A very basic sleeper van can work for short summer trips, but most people underestimate how much time they’ll actually spend inside the vehicle.
Comfort matters more here than saving a bit of money on the daily rate.
When you search on Motorhome Republic with those features selected (more on these guys below), you’ll often see fully equipped campervans and motorhomes appearing from established European fleets.

As shown in the example search results above (prices shown are from the time of searching and will change), you’ll typically see:
Larger international operators often perform well in Norway simply because they operate newer fleets designed for Northern European conditions.
Rather than trying to memorise company names, the fastest way to see what actually fits this criteria is to run a search with your dates and group size, then let the filters do the work.
You can quickly do a search here.
Once you’re on the results page:

From there, you can:
This avoids the common mistake of choosing a company first, only to find the right vehicle type is already booked.
Wherever possible in this guide, I have included links below to Motorhome Republic.
These guys are the world's biggest and best campervan/motorhome comparison site, working with the top rental firms each country has to offer.
I recommend them as the first place to begin your search for a rental, and here's why:

What I also love about Motorhome Republic is their Vehicle Guarantee. Meaning, if your chosen rental firm lets you down, then they will personally guarantee you another vehicle of the same quality/specification from another firm.
What's more, they will solve all the stress and hassle in arranging this. This Vehicle Guarantee is something no individual firm can offer you, so it's why I would always recommend booking through them.
Plus, coupled with their Price Promise, you know you are always getting the cheapest deal as well.
For more info, read our in-depth review of Motorhome Republic.
We ranked these companies based on:
Companies that lacked suitable vehicles, had limited fleets, or relied heavily on outdated vans were excluded.

When it comes to premium motorhome services, no one does it quite like Touring Cars, which has been a leading campervan rental company since its launch in 1982 in Finland.
With personalized packages, sustainable values, and authenticity, it’s the perfect option for exploring the hidden gems of Finland.
It embraces the Finnish sense of quality and reliability, which is perfect for customer satisfaction.
It’s super easy to tailor bookings to suit your travel needs and preferences.
What is so awesome about Touring Cars is their exclusive services, which includes VIP airport transfer and complimentary guidebooks to help you make the most of your adventure.
The high-quality German vehicles that make up the fleet at Touring Cars come in a huge range.
From smaller vans for solo travellers to 6-berth motorhomes fit for a family holiday, there’s something for everyone here.
We also adore the variety of add-ons you can choose, including a brilliant ready-to-go package to take care of your camping needs.
It gives you a final cleaning, raincoats, camping equipment, and even a BBQ set!
They are also a top pick for camper rentals in Wales, showing just how far across Europe you will find these guys!

If flexibility matters most to you, then Anywhere Campers is a very interesting option for a Norway road trip.
Rather than working from fixed depots in the usual way, they focus on delivering and collecting your camper in the place that suits your route. Their site specifically pushes this as a big selling point, and it makes a lot of sense in a country like Norway where one-way trips are often far more practical than looping back.
They also put a big emphasis on unlimited mileage, all-inclusive pricing, and rental insurance with assistance services included.
That makes them a strong pick if you want a more tailored rental experience, especially for longer point-to-point routes such as Oslo to Tromsø.
Anywhere Campers says its fleet consists of campervans and motorhomes suited for 2 to 6 people, with both manual and automatic transmissions available.
Their range includes the Carado CV601 Edition 15, Carado T447, Adria Matrix Plus M670SL, and Sunlight A70. These are proper campervan and motorhome-style setups, with features on selected models including a fully equipped kitchen, separate shower and toilet, ISOFIX, air conditioning, and spacious storage garages.
They also state that their vehicles are, on average, around one year old, which is a strong sign if you want something newer for driving Norway’s long distances.

You may notice that McRent was also our top pick in the France campervan rentals post, but it’s also near the top here as well. And that's for good reason.
Not only is this Europe’s biggest and most popular motorhome hire, it has six depots across Norway so you can pick up and drop off the vehicle anywhere that’s convenient for you.
We’d also go for McRent if you are planning a road trip to other European countries.
Even better, their focus on sustainability is quite admirable.
They even choose their suppliers based on some specific sustainability criteria!
The motorhomes are 2 years old or younger, and adhere to the Euro 6 emission standard.
Each vehicle comes with everything you need for a comfortable road trip, from kitchen and heating to a bathroom.
McRent also provides a 24/7 mobility guarantee and the most impeccable hygiene measures!
Even when travelling in the current situation, you won’t have to worry about cleanliness, which can be a huge load off your shoulder.

Want a Mini Camper to accompany your epic drive across Norway? Arctic Campers has got you covered.
They’re also the nation’s first Mini Camper and auto transmission vans provider.
Arctic Campers has two depots in Norway: Oslo and Tromsø. The second of which is the start of what we believe to be one of the world's best road trips, heading all the way across to the remote town of Hamningberg.
Alternatively, head south from Tromso, driving through most of Norway before dropping in their other location in Oslo.
But the most exciting thing is that they’re working together with a mobile sauna rental.
Yes, that means you can use your campervan to tow a trailer sauna, which can fit up to six people at once.
Having a private sauna as you park on the fjords or hunt for the Northern Lights - that’s the dream, right?
In terms of vehicles, they specialize in compact vans that are small and compact, and easy to drive.
You can find anything from the most basic camper that sleeps two to a 4x4 for your rugged adventures.
They’re also all automatic transmission!
Their campervans also drive climate-neutrally for the entirety of your road trip. This offsets any carbon emissions from the diesel and petrol fuel.

Roadsurfer is one of the most recognisable campervan rental brands in Europe, known for its bright, modern vans and more lifestyle-focused approach to road trips.
In Norway, they operate out of Oslo, making it an easy starting point for exploring the south of the country or heading west towards the fjords.
Compared to traditional motorhome companies, Roadsurfer tends to be more affordable and far more focused on compact campervans rather than large RV-style vehicles. They also include unlimited mileage as standard, which is a big plus given the long driving distances in Norway.
Another standout feature is their straightforward pricing model, where many essentials are already included, helping keep things simpler when booking.
Roadsurfer specialises in smaller campervan-style vehicles rather than large motorhomes.
Their fleet typically includes pop-top campervans and compact vans designed for 2 to 4 people, making them ideal for couples or small groups who want something easy to drive and park.
These vehicles are more about practicality and freedom than luxury, but still come equipped with key essentials like a sleeping area, small kitchen setup, and storage space.
Overall, Roadsurfer is a great choice if you want a fun, modern campervan experience without the size, cost, and complexity of a full motorhome.

WECAMP AS is a smaller Norwegian campervan rental company that focuses on keeping things simple and affordable.
They operate out of Oslo, making them a convenient option if you’re starting your trip in the capital and heading out towards southern Norway or the fjords.
Compared to some of the bigger European brands, WECAMP tends to offer more budget-friendly pricing, with a focus on straightforward campervan rentals rather than larger, more expensive motorhomes.
Their approach is much more no-frills, which works well if you’re just looking for a reliable vehicle to explore Norway without paying for unnecessary extras.
WECAMP focuses on compact campervan-style vehicles rather than large motorhomes.
From what’s shown on their site, their fleet includes practical vans suited to 2–4 people, designed for road trips rather than long-term living.
These typically include sleeping space, basic kitchen setups, and storage, but don’t lean heavily into luxury features like full bathrooms.
Overall, WECAMP AS is a good option if you want a simpler, more affordable campervan rental and are happy with a more minimal setup.

Motorhome Norway is a locally operated campervan and motorhome rental company based in Oslo, making it a strong option for travellers who want a more tailored and personalised rental experience.
Unlike some of the larger international brands, Motorhome Norway focuses specifically on Norway, which means their team has strong local knowledge and can provide useful advice for planning your route, especially if you're heading into more remote areas or tackling longer road trips.
The company is known for offering well-maintained vehicles and a straightforward rental process, with clear pricing and helpful support throughout your trip. This makes them a good choice for travellers who prefer dealing with a smaller, more specialised operator rather than a large international chain.
Because they operate locally, Motorhome Norway can also offer more flexibility when it comes to travel advice and itinerary planning, which can be especially useful for first-time visitors to the country.
Motorhome Norway offers a selection of campervans and motorhomes designed for comfortable travel around the country.
Their fleet typically includes vehicles suitable for 2 to 4 people, making them ideal for couples and small families. These motorhomes are equipped with essential features such as sleeping areas, kitchen facilities, and storage space for longer road trips.
The vehicles are designed to handle Norway’s varied road conditions, from coastal drives to mountain routes, providing a comfortable and practical way to explore the country.
As with many smaller operators, the exact models available may vary depending on availability, so it’s worth checking current options when booking.

Last but surely not least, we have a unique campervan rental for those of you looking for a road trip in Norway that is unlike any other.
Cabin Campers are affordable and truly one-of-a-kind.
This local company prides itself in its authentic campervan interiors inspired by traditional Norwegian cottages.
Staying inside their vans will make you feel like you’re holidaying in a stunning cottage accommodation, but with wheels!
Better yet, you can pay a 50% deposit and wait until two weeks before your trip to pay off the rest of it.
Each campervan comes with a double bed and seating for three, as well as an advanced electrical system and water system.
Cabin Campers also offers unlimited mileage, insurance and quality maintenance.
The 2.8-meter height of the interior also means you can stand up fully when inside. It’s a huge deal when you’re planning a longer trip!
Plus, their vehicles weigh less than 3500 kilograms, which means you can simply use a regular driver’s license.

Indie Campers is a large international campervan rental company that operates across Europe, including Norway. The company offers a wide range of campervans and motorhomes, making it one of the more accessible options for travellers looking to start a road trip from Oslo.
One of the main advantages of Indie Campers is the variety of vehicles available and the ability to book one-way rentals across different countries. This can be particularly useful if you're planning a longer European road trip rather than staying solely within Norway.
The booking process is simple and the company often offers competitive pricing, especially for longer rentals. However, customer experiences can vary, so it’s important to carefully review what’s included in your rental, particularly when it comes to insurance coverage, deposits, and add-ons.
Overall, Indie Campers can be a good option for those looking for flexibility and a broad range of vehicle choices, especially if you’re planning a multi-country itinerary.
Indie Campers offers a wide selection of campervans and motorhomes, ranging from compact vans to larger vehicles suitable for families.
Smaller campervans are available for couples or solo travellers and typically include basic sleeping space and storage, making them ideal for shorter road trips.
For those needing more space, Indie Campers also offers larger motorhomes that can sleep up to 4 people and include additional features such as kitchen facilities and dining areas.
Because Indie Campers operates across multiple countries, the exact vehicles available in Norway can vary depending on availability and season, so it’s worth checking the current fleet when booking.

You can wild camp in Norway, so that’s why I recommend a good cooking, shower, toilet setup.
For longer itineraries, shoulder season travel, or routes involving fjords and mountain passes, a mid-range or higher campervan setup is usually worth it.
P.S. Our longest Norway motorhome tip was in a van (with all the features described above) in November. We did the whole length of the country from Hamningberg to south of Oslo, and many of the best fjords. So we know what we’re talking about. Read more here in our guide on the best Norway road trips.

Booking a campervan in Norway is largely an availability game.
The best vehicles, especially those with good heating and comfortable interiors, are limited in number and book out early during summer and school holiday periods.
Based on when you are travelling:
So a simple answer? Ideally 6 months in advance if you want as much choice as possible. But we do see a lot of bookings made 12 months in advance.
So once you lock in your travel dates, make this a priority to book. You can plan the rest of your route and often book tours/campsites with much less availability.
Campervan & motorhome rental prices in Norway vary mainly by season and vehicle type. Rather than focusing on exact daily prices, it’s more useful to understand where each option sits from lower-cost to premium.
For a very rough idea of what I mean by this:
These are indicative ranges only and will vary by demand, location, and vehicle availability.
Availability drops quickly in summer, which pushes prices up.
Often the best balance of cost and comfort.
Also note that most campsites will be closed this time of year. We had to literally dig our way in and out of one campsite and only stayed there because we needed to use facilities like washing machines etc.
Almost everywhere was simply closed down. So you need a van capable of supporting you off-grid.

Now that you’ve read all that you need to know about renting a campervan or motorhome in Norway, you need to map out the rest of your adventure.
