Best Campervan & RV Rentals in Canada

We spent 4 months driving through Canada in a campervan, and we HIGHLY recommend it!

And because it's so big with so much to see, hiring an RV or campervan is easily the BEST way to explore.

You can take your time and create the perfect Canada itinerary.

You’ll also be able to explore off-the-beaten-track destinations that public transport doesn’t reach, and you won’t have to fork out for accommodation either.

As it’s such a popular way to explore the country, you’ll find plenty of RV rentals in Canada.

We saw so many campervan rental brands during our time in Canada. And for first time renters, it can feel overwhelming!

To quicken your search I’ve handpicked the best ones.

Let's get straight into it ...

First up, why trust us?

We rented our first campervan back in 2019 and since then have been HOOKED!

Almost all trips we now do are in our own campervan (which we converted ourselves), or by hiring one.

We have picked up so much in the last 6 years through personal trial and error, and know what goes into a great camper, motorhome, and RV.

One thing we've learned is that it really does depend on you, and what you are looking to get out of your trip.

So below we considered exactly this and wat to help highlight the best sorts of campervans for different types of traveler.

Whether you are as a couple, a family, looking to go off-grid, or just don't want a big right for your first campervan rental.

Don't worry, we've got you covered.

Quick answer: what to book for Canada

If you want the short, practical answer, focus on the vehicle setup first, not the rental company.

Canada is very different from renting campervans in places like Europe. Distances are bigger. Roads are wider. Campsites are more common. And weather conditions vary massively depending on where and when you’re travelling.

For most travellers in Canada, the best experience comes from a campervan or RV that has:

  • Proper heating (even in summer in places like Banff or Jasper)
  • Good storage space for luggage and food
  • A toilet (very useful for long driving days - and we found that many great Canadian campsites are in forests where facilities may be lacking)
  • Comfortable indoor seating
  • Enough power capacity if you plan to wild camp

If you’re road-tripping through the Rockies, Vancouver Island, or doing long highway drives between national parks, comfort matters far more than saving a small amount on the daily rate.

Canada is built for road trips; you will spend time driving. One thing we quickly discovered that a 4 hour drive to get between towns is pretty common. Here in the UK, that’s the same as driving halfway across the country!

Choose a setup that makes that enjoyable.

A quick example of what works well in Canada

When you run a search on Motorhome Republic (more on them below) with your dates and group size, you’ll typically see:

  • Class C motorhomes (very popular in Canada)
  • Larger campervans with internal toilets
  • Automatic transmission vehicles (almost all are automatic)
  • Unlimited mileage options

In Canada, larger RV-style vehicles are much more common than in Europe.

Roads are wide and parking is easier. Plus, campgrounds are well designed for larger vehicles. And distances between destinations can be significant.

For couples, a compact campervan works well. For families or longer trips, most people prefer a mid-size or full Class C motorhome.

The easiest way to find the right vans (without guessing)

Rather than trying to memorise company names, the fastest way to find the right campervan in Canada is to run a search on Motorhome Republic with your dates and group size, then use the filters properly.

Once you’re on the results page, use filters such as:

  • Toilet
  • Shower
  • Automatic transmission

Canada is one of the easiest countries in the world for motorhome travel, but choosing the right size still matters.

Bigger isn’t always better, especially if you’re new to driving RVs.

Filtering first avoids choosing a company and only later realising the right vehicle type is already sold out for your dates.

How are these RV rental companies ranked?

Deciding which RV rental company to go for can often feel overwhelming which is why we’ve come up with our own ranking system. This will ensure you’re given the most up-to-date information and you can easily see which companies offer the best value for money.

To work this out, we compared dozens of the best rental companies in Canada. This was done by looking at their Google reviews (+ rating), Motorhome Republic ratings, and Trustpilot scores.

After diving into this data and taking our own personal experiences into account, we’ve ranked the country’s top RV companies to make the whole process easier for our readers.

We ranked these companies based on:

  • Fleet quality and vehicle age
  • Suitability for Canadian road trips
  • Our own experience campervanning across Canada for 3 months
  • Availability during peak summer season
  • Transparent pricing and mileage policies
  • User feedback across Google and Trustpilot
  • National coverage (multiple pick-up locations)

Companies with poor reliability, unclear policies, or consistently weak customer feedback were ranked lower.

Campervan rental prices in Canada (by season + vehicle type)

Campervan rental prices in Canada vary primarily by season and vehicle size.

As a rough guide:

  • Lower: CAD $90–150 per day (basic campervans)
  • Mid-range: CAD $150–250 per day (larger campervans or small RVs)
  • Premium: CAD $250–450+ per day (Class C motorhomes)

Summer prices (June to September)

This is peak season and the most expensive time to rent.

Class C motorhomes are extremely popular and prices rise quickly.

Shoulder season prices (May and October)

Often the best value overall, though some campgrounds may close.

Off-season prices (Winter)

Limited availability. Many operators shut down fleets.

Heating and winterisation become essential if travelling outside summer.

NOTE: we toured all the way from Halifax in the east, to Alaska and then down BC to Vancouver. Starting off in March. We saw temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and were absolutely fine, but we did need heating obviously. Despite colder weather, roads are well maintained. Read more about where we visited here in our guide on the best road trips in Canada.

Canada RV/Motorhome Hire FAQ

One of our favourite spots in our campervan!

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Canada?

Several factors affect RV rental prices in Canada. This includes the driver’s age, trip length, and vehicle type. In general, expect to pay between $70-$140 per day for a small campervan, and $150-$250 per day for a larger RV. Car rentals are usually cheaper, but you will also need to factor in accommodation costs.

Do you need a special licence to drive an RV in Canada?

In most cases, you do not need a special licence to drive an RV in Canada. A standard licence is usually enough. However, larger vehicles over certain weight limits or those carrying more than 16 people may require additional licensing, so it is always best to check before booking.

How old do you have to be to rent an RV in Canada?

Most RV rental companies in Canada require drivers to be at least 21 years old and to have held a licence for at least one year. Some companies require drivers to be 25 or older, and younger drivers may need to pay a surcharge.

Can you rent an RV in Canada and travel into the United States?

Some RV rental companies in Canada allow travel into the United States. This depends on the provider and their policies. Companies like Cruise Canada and CanaDream may allow cross-border travel, and some private rentals on platforms like Outdoorsy may offer this too.

Can you camp anywhere in Canada?

Camping rules in Canada vary depending on the province and land type. In most cases, overnight parking in an RV is only allowed in designated campgrounds. There are plenty of these across the country, including many well-equipped sites in national and provincial parks.

Is it hard to drive a motorhome in Canada?

No. Roads in Canada are wide and well maintained, which makes it one of the easiest countries for first-time RV drivers.

Do campervans in Canada have heating?

Most campervans and motorhomes in Canada include heating, especially larger models. It is always best to confirm this if you are travelling in the shoulder seasons.

Is unlimited mileage included?

Unlimited mileage is often included with campervan and RV rentals in Canada, but not always. Always check the specific rental policy before booking.

Can you wild camp in Canada?

Wild camping is allowed in some areas of Canada, particularly on Crown land. However, national and provincial parks usually require you to stay in designated campgrounds.

Is it cheaper to rent a campervan than hotels in Canada?

Not always. Renting a campervan offers flexibility and access to remote locations, but it is not always cheaper than staying in hotels once fuel, campsite fees, and rental costs are included.

Are you ready to explore Canada?

Now that you’ve got a rough idea of the best RV companies to choose from it’s time to start planning your trip!

Whether you’ve only got two weeks in Canada, or you’re road-tripping the country for a couple of months - there are endless places to visit.

Some of the most popular spots within Canada include Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Niagara Falls, and Whistler.

However, the highlight of this beautiful country is its national parks! So, make sure you head to Banff National Park, Yoho, Jasper, and Algonquin as each of these places has so much to offer!
