Wondering whether it's worth splashing the cash for the Dreams Vista Golf Resort & Spa? Well we stayed and take you through what we honestly thought...
Even as I know I’m about to start writing this review, I know I’m going to want to book a stay here again after I finish…
Yes, it’s that good ;)
Not every all-inclusive hotel are equal, and when it comes to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, specifically, Cancun, you really are spoiled for choice and it can become VERY overwhelming.
Well, after a LOT of research, we settled on Dreams Vista Cancun, and we were not disappointed.
But it’s not cheap, so if you’re wondering whether you should part with your hard earned money, then you’ve come to the right place.
I’m going to give you an honest review of the hotel and facilities!
It’s worth noting that we paid our way for this property, and we aren’t doing this review in any sort of association with Dreams Resort & Spa.
So, let’s get to it!

Literally the experience of checking into this resort showcases just how nice of a time you’re going to have.
Your luggage will be taken off you, and brought to your room, and you’ll be given a glass of something sparkling and head to the check-in desk room, which has comfortable chairs and a beautiful vibe.
Your host will check you in, get to know you, offer you upsells and vouchers that make everything over priced (I’ve been to Cancun and Mexico enough times to know when people are getting ripped off- if all you’ve ever done are resorts in Cancun, you’re getting ripped off when it comes to tours ect), and this will be your opportunity to say if you’re celebrating anything.
Brad and I were celebrating our anniversary during this stay, so we talked about it.
She did some clicking on her computer and said we got an upgrade (we didn’t really), but they did give us a bottle of prosecco and apples in the room waiting for us which was a very nice touch!
Anyway, once we got to the room, a few minutes later our baggage arrived.
Rooms at the Dreams Vista Cancun
There are a lot of rooms categories at this hotel, but they’re pretty much split into two main ones, normal and preferred.
I’m going to take you through whats on offer, then tell you what we stayed in.
Standard (non-Preferred Club) rooms & suites
Deluxe Golf & Ocean View – Entry-level, 479 sq ft. Located on the lower floors with dual views of the resort’s golf fairways and the sea. King rooms get a small sitting area with a sofa bed; two-queen layouts are also available.
Deluxe Ocean View – Also 479 sq ft but positioned for an unobstructed blue-water panorama. A furnished balcony or terrace comes standard; king rooms again add a sofa bed nook.
Deluxe Family Suite Golf & Ocean View – 956 sq ft; essentially two connecting Deluxe Golf & Ocean rooms, so you get one king + two queens (or four queens), a shared living area and space for up to six guests.
Deluxe Family Suite Ocean View – Same 956 sq ft footprint, but links two Deluxe Ocean View rooms instead. Expect a balcony/terrace, sofa bed in the king room and rain-shower baths.
Preferred Club rooms & suites
All of the following include upgraded minibar and bath amenities, a pillow menu, concierge service and entry to the rooftop infinity pool and Vista Prime restaurant.
Preferred Club Deluxe Ocean View – 479 sq ft; king or two queens; balcony and sofa-bed in king layouts
Preferred Club Corner Suite Ocean View – 753 sq ft corner unit with wrap-around terrace seating; one king bed.
Preferred Club Deluxe Ocean View Plunge Pool – 517 sq ft; same bedding choices but with a private plunge pool on the terrace.
Preferred Club Honeymoon Suite Ocean View – 603 sq ft romantic layout with king bed, terrace seating and an outdoor soaking tub next to that ocean vista.
Preferred Club Master Suite Ocean Front – 1,206 sq ft one-bedroom facing straight out to sea; includes a living room, kitchenette/bar and plunge-pool terrace. It can connect to a double room to form the Master Family Suite Ocean Front (up to six guests)
Preferred Club Deluxe Family Suite Ocean View – 958 sq ft (king + two queens) by connecting two Preferred Club Deluxe rooms.
Preferred Club Deluxe Family Suite Ocean View with Plunge Pool – 1,034 sq ft; same concept but each half has its own plunge pool.
Preferred Club Master Family Suite Ocean View – 1,684 sq ft combining a Master Suite and a double room, plus a plunge-pool terrace—ideal for larger families.
Presidential Suite Ocean Front – 1,280 sq ft flagship with walk-in closet, full living/dining/bar area and a huge ocean-front terrace sporting a plunge pool, dining table and loungers; can connect for a two-bedroom set-up.
We booked a room with golf and sea view, and it was pretty much that!
This was our view...
Restaurants at the Dreams Vista Cancun
There are so many great places to eat at the Dreams Vista Cancun, and they cater well to vegetarians! (Brad and I!)
So I’m going to give you an overview of the places to eat, but then give them a rating out of 10, based on our own experience.
It’s worth noting most restaurants at Dreams Vista are included in your package, unless noted below.
Rooftop & specialty
Bluewater Grill – Mediterranean-fusion and fresh seafood; lunch is an adults-only perk for Preferred Club guests, dinner opens to everyone. Sweeping skyline views from the 16-story rooftop. 7/10 They had fewer options for vegetarians, and the food was “okay”. I think if you were actually eating seafood, it would be better, but the staff were great, and the views from the rooftop are well worth it!
Vista Prime – Dinner-only asado grill sharing the same rooftop terrace; family-friendly but still restricted to Preferred Club guests. Can’t rate this one as we didn’t try it. It’s for Preferred guests too, but it’s in the same area as the previous restaurant.
Chef’s Table – Ten seats inside the main kitchen for a live, multi-course tasting (surcharge; reservations via the concierge).Didn’t try!
Wine Cellar – Private room for eight between Portofino and Mi Lucrecia; an à-la-carte menu paired with an extensive wine list (surcharge) Didn’t try
À-la-carte restaurants
Portofino – Traditional Italian classics and a show-piece pizza oven. 8/10 very much enjoyed here! I love italian food, and whilst it’s not quite Italy, the food and drinks were great. And they catered for vegetarians.
Mi Lucrecia – Upscale Mexican regional cuisine in a romantic, hacienda-style space. 7.5/10 Finally a Mexican restaurant in a Mexican resort ;) This place was good! I ordered veggie tacos and they brought me out meat ones to begin with, but were very apologetic (I bit into it lol), BUT the food was delicious! However, you can get better Mexican street food, on the streets! Lol
Himitsu – Pan-Asian favorites; choose sushi bar, à-la-carte seating or book one of four teppanyaki tables. 7.5/10 The experience of this was brilliant! We did the teppanyaki table and the live chef doing all the fun food stuff was great to watch! I didn’t love the food tooo much, but it was decent, and worth it for the atmosphere.
Casual daytime venues
This was a "lunch" for me at the World Cafe
La Plaza Gourmet Hall – Open-air food court with six themed stations (wellness, sushi/wok, Mediterranean pizzas, grill, Mexican tacos al pastor, and dessert crêpes). Lunch only. 7.5/10 Great range of food here, always fresh and always delicious. It’s close to the beach access area, so a great lunch spot if you’re just chilling by the sea.
La Terraza – Light à-la-carte lunch—salads, wraps, paninis—served on the terrace overlooking the sea. 7/10 This was never quite busy when we visited, but the food is good! The menu is a bit limited, there is too much choice in general (so even less for vegetarians), BUT it’s a nice lunch spot if you want something that isn’t buffet style.
World Café – Three-meal international buffet (includes a separate kids’ area). 8.5/10: this is truly one of the best buffet restaurants in any all-inclusive resort we’ve been too. For a start, it feels classy, not like a school dinner style buffet (if you know, you know lol). We had breakfast, and lunch here mainly, but did try dinner once. Breakfast was a fantastic affair. Everything you could imagine was on offer, and it was all delicious and fresh. The same with lunch! Even thinking about all the food here, I’m still dreaming. Once you sit down, you can order coffees and teas and they’ll bring them to your table.
Quick bites & all-day treats
Coco Café – 24-hour gourmet coffee bar, pastries, ice-cream and late-night grab-and-go snacks. 8.5/10 I mean, it is what it is and it’s brilliant! Lol The icecream is great, the pastries are okay, not the world's best, but the macaroons were lovely. But the access to barista style coffee whenever you wanted it? Priceless! Sometimes we’d be watching a movie then fancy a hot chocolate and cookie, and we’d pop down and get them from here. I loved this spot, and the fact it’s all included.
Bars at the Dreams Vista Cancun
Before I go into the bar list. It’s worth mentioning that all Dreams Resorts, including the Dreams Vista in Cancun, use premium liquor as standard. This is truly awesome. When I was having vodka, I was drinking Belvedere as standard lol But it’s also a great way to try some very nice tequilas. Brad ended up drinking only the “best” tequilas and now it’s ruined all other ones for him hahaha
Basically all drinks are of high quality, and there are no premade cocktails, everything is made fresh for you on site. Espresso martinis, and margaritas were top notch.
And with most of the bars, if there is something on the menu that you’re craving cocktail wise, then just ask. Even if they haven’t made it before, they’ll ask you for a recipe (if it’s not busy) and attempt to make it!
Again, I’ll give a rating!
Rooftop & panorama
Bar 360° – Perched on the 16-story rooftop with firepits and wrap-around views of Cancún, Isla Mujeres and the Nichupté lagoon. From 9 a.m.-6 p.m. it’s a chill, adults-only perch for Preferred Club guests; from 6 :30 p.m. to 11 p.m. all grown-ups are welcome for craft cocktails and live-DJ sunsets. 8.5/10 The views are incredible up here, and the drinks and cocktails are great. Good music too! It’s just not very big so it can get a little crowded. Plus it’s nice that it’s adults only!
Beach & poolside
Barracuda – The classic toes-in-the-sand bar on the resort’s beach strip, shaking frozen margaritas and local beers 10 a.m.-6 p.m 8/10 Great spot by the beach. They make a mean ciprhinia! Staff are really friendly too.
Sugar Reef – Breezy lounge next to the La Plaza food court with Isla Mujeres on the horizon; think mojitos, micheladas and comfy sofas from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.8/10 another great spot. Great drinks, vibes and views.
Lobby & social hub
Rendezvous – Your “welcome drink” central. The lobby bar serves espresso martinis by day, piano-bar vibes by night, and stays open 10 a.m.-midnight. 9/10- I’m giving it a 9 out of 10, not only for the vibes, but for those espresso martinis. Even thinking about them, ooshh, they were SO good!
After-dark & entertainment
Desires Sports Bar & Disco – Sports-bar screens and pub grub until early evening, then flips to an adults-only club with a DJ and dance floor until 1 a.m. Perfect for a post-wedding dance-off. 8/10 Fun spot with fuse ball, board games and sport games being played. Turns into a club vibe in the night. Brad and I did this once, made friends, did too many shots of tequaila, hated myself the next morning lol
Club-level exclusive
Preferred Club Bar (Lounge) – Inside the Preferred Club Lounge; continental breakfast, premium labels and hors d’oeuvres flow from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. (Preferred guests only) Didn’t try it!
Terrace tipple spot
Veranda – Casual bar on the specialty-restaurant terrace—great for a pre-Portofino Negroni or an after-dinner mezcal, open 10 a.m.-11 p.m. 8/10 another great spot! And when we were chilling by the pool, they’d come take a drink order and bring it over. Lush.
Facilities at the Dreams Vista Cancun
There are lots of other things going on at the Dreams Vista Cancun!
Some of them we used, some of them we didn’t!
But let’s go through them below.
Three heated pools anchored by a vast infinity pool at beach level, an adults-only rooftop infinity pool (Preferred Club) and a family activity pool with splash features. We used the infinity pool at beach level the most. It was great!
Dual surf pools where you can body-surf or stand-up ride a stationary wave—rare for Cancún resorts. Didn’t try this but it looked like fun.
Splash park & pirate ship for younger kids, plus shallow toddlers’ zone. Didn’t bring children so didn’t try this.
Complimentary non-motorised water sports (kayaks, snorkelling kit, pool scuba demo) and daily pool/beach volleyball.
Adventure & active fun
A three-storey climbing wall faces the sea, joined by pickleball, ping-pong, foosball, billiards and a small zip-line.
The resort’s pier launches catamarans and fishing or snorkel excursions (extra cost).
Kids & teens clubs
Explorer’s Club (ages 3-12) runs 09:30-22:00 with a splash park, arts & crafts, treasure hunts and a “movie zone.”
Core Zone Teens Club (ages 13-17) opens 11:00-19:00 for video games, mixers and beach sports. Both are fully supervised and Red-Cross-certified.
Wellness & fitness
Dreams Spa by Pevonia: 10+ treatment rooms, couples’ cabin, salon, hydrotherapy circuit, cold plunge, steam and dry saunas.
Fitness centre with treadmills, cardio machines, free weights, beach-view yoga and daily water-aerobics classes.Gym was used more by Brad than me! But it was a pretty decent gym. Not overly large for the size of the resort, but high quality and very clean.
Day-to-night entertainment
Outdoor rooftop theatre hosts nightly stage shows and movies under the stars.
Rotating theme nights, live bands, beach parties, wine/tequila tastings, Spanish and cooking classes keep the schedule packed.
Golf & beyond
Guests receive discounted green fees at Puerto Cancún Golf Course (five minutes away) and Greg Norman’s Playa Mujeres track.
A free water shuttle ferries you to the Puerto Cancún marina & shopping mall for a change of scene
Was the wifi good?
Yes! Since Brad and I are weird ;), we were also working whilst at this resort, as in working on our laptops, so we wanted good Wifi and we had no issues with the quality of WiFi on offer.
Were the staff friendly?
Yes, every single person we interacted with was kind and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. You feel extremely welcomed at this resort.
Was room service included?
Room service & Harry potter- what more could you need? ;)
Yes! There was a limited menu for room service, but we used it! Food quality was just okay, but good enough if I wanted a snack, or were feeling peckish late and couldn’t be bothered getting ready to go to dinner!
Is it worth going from Standard to “Club”?
In my humble opinion…no.
Yes you can get nicer rooms, but the rooms at standard are stunning at the hotel. They’re all large, they all have balconies, they’re all nice! With the Club service you get an extra restaurant, and an extra roof top pool. But, I just don’t think that’s worth it.
You still get all the same top shelf liquor and food on standard so it’s not really a big difference for me. I’m sure there are extra perks such as spa access or maybe even good discounts, but again, standard felt like a luxury to me!
So there you have it, my review of the Dreams Vista Cancun (Golf Resort and Spa!)
It really was a great experience. And if you’re wondering, was it overrun with kids, if you’re not planning on going as a family, it wasn’t. There were children around of course, but there’s so much for them to do, and a whole splash area and pool, that the main pool isn’t full of children!
Dreams Resorts tagline is “For Couples and Couples with children”, trust me you’ll have it repeating in your head as everytime you walk into your room it’s on the TV lol, so yes, they’re trying to target both families but with a focus on couples too.
If you’re looking for a luxury all-inclusive resort in Cancun, that’s not overly big (but a decent size), then this is the one for you. I would return here in a heartbeat, and I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you choose the Dreams Vista Cancun as your choice of hotel.
I’m already researching what other Dreams hotels I can stay in elsewhere around the world!
