If you’ve been on the hunt for a seamless way to stay connected across continents without faffing about with physical SIM cards, then let me introduce you to Truely eSIM.

I’m no stranger to the humble eSIM. I’ve been using them since 2022, and I’ve tested over 15 of them.

So, when the Truely team reached out, I was more than happy to test out another!

I was equal parts intrigued…and cynical.

Because Truely pride themselves on being unlimited…but, could “unlimited data, no caps, no hidden fees” really mean truly unlimited?

Spoiler: there’s a lot to love, but a few caveats to watch out for.

Let’s get into it.

TAP TO INTERACT

Who are Truely?

Truely eSIM are a travel eSIM provider offering Switchless™ digital SIMs with unlimited data plans across 190+ countries through partnerships with over 700 global networks.

Its service delivers instant, hassle-free connectivity—no physical SIM swaps or roaming fees—letting travellers tap to activate and stay online in 200+ destinations.

What Is Truely’s “Switchless™” Tech?

Truely markets itself as the “last travel eSIM you’ll ever need,” powered by what they call Switchless™ technology. In practice, that means:

  • One QR code, all your trips: Install the Truely eSIM once, then select your destination in the app. No swapping or juggling among multiple eSIM profiles as you move from France to Japan to Mexico.

  • 190+ countries covered: From Germany’s autobahns to remote beaches in Southeast Asia, you’re meant to be auto-connected to the strongest local network.

  • 700+ telco partnerships: Truely claims tie-ups with giants like Verizon, Orange, Vodafone, and more, so you get priority on local networks.

  • Truly “unlimited” data: No hard caps, no throttling clauses buried in the small print (the website boldly states “Unlimited really means unlimited”).

On paper, it’s the dream. But in the whirlwind of travel, the proof is the download speeds, loading speeds, and—let’s be honest—customer support when things go wrong.

Pricing: How does it work?

Truely’s pricing model is refreshingly transparent: choose how many days of unlimited data you need, and the price per day drops the longer you subscribe.

For example, if you’re traveling in the U.S., Truely’s plans run from about $4.93 for a 2-day pass up to $98.88 for 30 days (with true unlimited data on all plans).

And for Asia, plans start at $5.52 per day and for 2 weeks, it drops to $3.39 per day, and at the maximum of 30 days, you’re getting it for $3 per day.

This is the Asia example!

Here’s the thing: while it may seem pricier than some low-data plans (especially if you only need 1–2 GB), having unlimited high-speed data can easily justify the cost if you:

  • Work remotely: Video calls, VPNs, and cloud backups eat data by the gigabyte.

  • Road-trip: Hotspot streaming for Netflix or mapping for multi-leg journeys.

  • Stay social: Uploading photos, live-streaming, or even just using Instagram Stories without worrying.

Compared to buying prepaid SIMs in every new city, paying tourist-taxed “airport Wi-Fi,” or coughing up outrageous roaming fees on my usual plan, it’s a  no-brainer for me when it comes to wanting unlimited data.

Activation & Setup: Truly Quick! ;)

Installing a Truely eSIM is about as straightforward as it gets:

  1. Download the app (iOS or Android) and sign up.

  2. Scan your eSIM QR code once—you’ll get it via email immediately after purchase.

  3. Select your destination and duration, then tap “Activate” when you land.

It’s that simple.

Device Compatibility

Wondering if your device will take Truely’s Switchless™ eSIM? The good news is that Truely supports any smartphone, tablet or laptop that has native eSIM capabilities. Here’s the full list of brands whose devices you can load it on:

  • Apple (iPhone XS and up, iPhone SE 2020+, iPads with cellular, etc.)

  • Google (Pixel 3 and later)

  • Samsung (Galaxy S20/S21/S22/S23/S24, A-series, Z Fold/Flip, etc.)

  • OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Huawei, Honor, Motorola

  • Asus, Gemini, TCL, Sharp, ZTE, Doogee, Hammer, Oukitel, FairPhone

  • Microsoft (Windows 10 1703+ PCs with LTE)

  • Acer, Dell, Lenovo, HP, NUU, MyPhone, Rakuten, CROSSCALL

Pro tip: If you’re not 100% sure your exact model supports eSIM, look for “Add eSIM” or “Mobile Service” in your Settings, or Google it ;)

Coverage & Performance: What Speeds to Expect

I'm only testing the coverage in the UK as of now, but what I will say, is I live on a boat and trust me the signal here is terrible with my current mobile provider, and having access to a eSIM that bounces to the strongest network, will help!

BUT, I'm heading off on a 10 day road trip to Europe in 2 weeks and I'll push the unlimited data to the limits to see what happens! ;)

I will report back.

However, I should flag one report from some of the online forums, where a user’s “unlimited” plan abruptly stopped working after 10 GB, with no throttling slowdown or warning—it just cut off .

So again, I'll check this out for myself and see if it does slow down, or even "stop".

But so far so good with the app, ease of getting the eSIM downloaded, and the fact it's unlimited is a really great feature for me.

I personally think the pricing is good too!

Customer Support: When You Need a Lifeline

One of the most common travel nightmares is real-time troubleshooting. Truely claims 24/7 support via in-app chat, email, and even WhatsApp.

I tried the live chat for is hot spotting allowed…

You can see the screen grab below!

The response took about 2-3 minutes and this was a Sunday afternoon.

Based on dozens of traveler testimonials, many rave about Truely’s “patient, thorough, and intelligent” support team—especially for first-time eSIM installers . That peace of mind, especially in a sticky situation abroad, is worth its weight in gold.

The Good, the Not-So-Good, and the Verdict

What I Love

  • True one-and-done install through Switchless™: The beauty here is not just in installing once, but in the flawless network handoffs. In theory it means you could do a flight from London to Tokyo, then onward to Bali, and never once fiddle with the settings. The app quietly switches you onto the best local partner network, whether it’s NTT Docomo in Japan or Telkomsel in Indonesia, and all you see is full bars.

  • Unlimited data, genuinely unlimited: For digital nomads and families streaming video on-the-go, this is a blessing. I’ll be taking a trip to Italy in a few weeks, and I’m going to test this to the brim! So I will report back on any setbacks I encounter.

  • Broad coverage with deep partnerships: With over 700 telco agreements worldwide, Truely doesn’t just rely on MVNOs; it taps the same networks locals use. The result? Fewer speed dips, better signal indoors, and fast handovers between towers.

  • Reliable speeds: Consistent 50–70 Mbps on 4G and regular bursts past 200 Mbps on available 5G mean you’re not stuck in snail mode.

  • Hotspot/tethering friendly: Unlike some travel eSIMs that penalize tethering, Truely embraces it. Ya’ll should know by now that I only use eSIMS that allow hot spotting. Since I’m a digital nomad, it’s imperative.
  • Responsive customer support: We love a 24/7 customer support network.

What Could Improve

  • Cost for light users: If you only need a handful of GB, the baseline per-day rate (around $4–5) can feel steep compared to pay-as-you-go or country-specific low-data packs.

  • Potential fair-use ambiguity: While the promise is unlimited data, there is little clarity on what “reasonable network management” entails. A published fair-use policy with clear thresholds would reassure power users who push beyond 50 GB in a month.

My Verdict

If you’re craving a hands-off, high-bandwidth solution that stands up to real-world travel—think constant speed tests, heavy streaming, and hotspot use—Truely eSIM is the new benchmark.

It’s not the best option for modest data users looking to save a few dollars, but for anyone who treats their smartphone like a lifeline, it delivers without drama.

Grab it for your next continent-hopping trip, and experience data freedom that truly lives up to its name.

Ready to take off?
Grab your Truely eSIM and step off the plane connected—no waiting, no fuss, no hidden fees. Pack light, roam free, and let your data roam with you.

Love,

Cazzy
