Wondering if the Roamelss eSIM is the right one for your trip? We tested it throughout Europe for 2 weeks and go through our experience in this blog post..
roamless esim review

I know what you’re thinking…how many eSIMS is too many eSIMS ;)

There are a lot of eSIMS on the market nowadays, and it can be super difficult to decide which one is best suited to your travels.

If you’re planning a Europe road trip and don’t fancy juggling SIM cards at every border?

We took Roamless’ Europe 10 GB eSIM on a loop through France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

One payment, one install, and it just worked.

From vineyards in Italy to Dresden’s old town, plus plenty of car‑camping stops, we stayed online for maps, campsite bookings, places to eat, and even nightly Amazon Prime sessions of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Hot‑spotting to a second phone and our laptop was painless too.

But let's look into more details below to help you make your decision...

TAP TO INTERACT

What is Roamless (and why the Europe plan “just works”)?

Roamless runs on a single global eSIM you install once.

After that, you add a regional plan like Europe 10 GB / 30 days, or you can use pay‑as‑you‑go credits if you prefer.

The Europe plan is data‑only, hotspot is allowed, there’s no listed speed cap on the plan page, and it auto‑activates when you arrive.

That means you can set it up before you fly or ferry and forget about it.

I bought it when I landed in Europe, i,e after I got off the Ferry in France!

But as I said, you can purchase beforehand if you wish.

The one‑fee‑for‑everywhere bit

We bought the Europe 10 GB plan and crossed all six countries on that single purchase.

There was no country add‑ons, no mid‑trip swaps.

The balance simply ticked down across the region while we drove.

For a road trip, that’s the dream: border days were hands‑off, navigation kept running, and we didn’t touch settings once.

Everytime we crossed a border, I got a push notification saying "Welcome to The Netherlands, you've got 4.67GB left".

That happened for each country, and it was also useful to track how much data I was using!

I can't stress enough how fuss-free this is.

And it doesn't just work for Europe.

It would be the same for the Global eSIM (with 122 countries), or region specific again like, Latin America or the Middle East!

Setup and activation

Activating this eSIM is super super simple.

You simply, purchase the plan, scan the QR, and you’re done.

Yup.

The profile activates when you hit Europe and keeps working as you move country to country.

We tethered freely (phone to phone and phone to laptop) and never saw any warnings or slowdowns beyond the usual busy‑area blips.

Daytime data was maps and searches for places to eat, wandering around cities, places to stay the night & evenings were streaming without fuss.

Coverage and real‑world performance

I feel like I truly tested this eSIM through a bunch of different scenarions in Europe.

For instance, we mixed big cities and rural stretches: wine hills in Italy, cities in Germany, beaches in the South of France, urban driving across France, Germany, and Belgium.

Hand‑offs between networks happened in the background and we never had to pick carriers manually.

For the practical stuff—finding campsites, late restaurants, last‑minute places to stay—it felt like using a home plan that happened to cover half a continent.

I even had a stay in an ole Tuscan farmhouse style place, which was, beautiful (by the way!), but honestly, the wifi was not great, but it wasn't an issue as I was able to use the data from my Roamless eSIM to keep me connected!

Pricing at a glance

Europe plans are sold with fixed data and a 30‑day validity, including a 10 GB option.

There are smaller and larger tiers too.

If you prefer to drip‑feed usage across future trips, the pay‑as‑you‑go wallet can be handy, but for a single multi‑country itinerary the fixed Europe plan keeps things simple. Prices change, so check the current figure when you buy.

But regardless, you can get 20% off with our code DBTF20, so yano, every little helps! ;)

I paid £17.80, with my discount, for 10GB which would last 30 days.

I honestly think this is a great price and I had no issues with it.

10GB was enough for me on this trip, and I used it for maps, looking up places to stay, general admin stuff and I did use it to stream Amazon Prime a couple of nights.

I didn't do any traditional laptop work on this trip, but if I was going to be working more consisntelty, I would have opted for the 20GB.

But I also think that if you were just using this for sightseeing generally on your trip, you'd actually only need 3-5GB.

I also left it on the entire time, i.e I didn't try to "save" any data, I just had it running in the background all day and night (unless my phone died lol)

Calls and texts

Roamless is data‑first. Traditional phone numbers and SMS aren’t the focus here.

You can make app‑based calls if needed, and most travelers will lean on WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime, or similar for voice and texting.

I use WhatsApp in my daily life regardless. I literally only use my actual phone for calling if it's a medical thing, other than that, I use WhatsApp for everything, and that includes contacting places/campsite for staying the night.

eSIM‑compatible devices

You’ll need an unlocked device that supports eSIM. Always double‑check your exact model and region before purchasing.

A quick, non‑exhaustive guide:

Apple iPhone
• iPhone 16 series
• iPhone 15 series
• iPhone 14 series (US models are eSIM‑only)
• iPhone 13, 12, 11 families
• iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
• iPhone SE (2020, 2022)

Google Pixel
• Pixel 9a, 9, 9 Pro
• Pixel 8, 8 Pro; 7, 7 Pro, 7a
• Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
• Pixel 5, 5a; 4, 4 XL, 4a, 4a 5G
• Pixel Fold

Samsung Galaxy
• S‑series from S20 through S24 (including Plus/Ultra variants)
• Z Fold and Z Flip families (recent generations)
• Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
• Selected A‑series models with eSIM in supported regions

Other brands (model and region dependent)
• Sony Xperia 1/5 series and newer 10‑series models
• Nokia G60, X30, XR21 and similar
• Honor 50/90 and Magic series
• OPPO Find and recent Flip/Fold models

Some variants are region‑specific for eSIM support (for example, certain Chinese models), so it’s worth confirming on the manufacturer’s site or in your phone’s settings.

Pros and cons

What we loved

  • One fee covered all six countries we visited on the Europe plan
  • Hotspot allowed and no speed cap noted, so streaming and tethering felt effortless
  • Install once, then it auto‑connects across borders without manual carrier juggling

What could be better

  • No built‑in number or classic SMS; if you rely on those, plan to use apps or a secondary number

Verdict

For multi‑country travel, the Europe 10 GB plan did exactly what we wanted: pay once, stay connected everywhere on our route, share data freely, and stream at day’s end.

Setup took minutes and then disappeared into the background.

If you need traditional calling and SMS, keep a backup plan; otherwise, for maps, bookings, streaming and tethering, this is a tidy, low‑maintenance choice for a Europe road trip.

We’d happily use it again, and I will for future trips!

Cazzy
