Who exactly is Level8?

Level8 is a luggage brand specializing in sleek and simple models.

Born in 2008, this company is based in New York City and focuses on minimalist designs with durable, high-quality materials.

If we had to describe their products in three words: functional, stylish, and reliable.

Note that Level8 is a mid-level brand with premium pricing, so their luggage may not be the cheapest on the market.

However, this is a reflection of the quality and construction.

One of their products (the Pro Carry-On) even won the Red Dot Award in 2021!

Where can you buy Level8 luggage?

The first option for buying Level8 luggage is through their official site.

It is best for those living in Contiguous US, the UK, and EU member countries, as shipping is free.

Returns are also possible within 7 days, as long as you contact their customer service first to get a return validation.

However, this might be a cumbersome process for those outside of the US.

Level8 also offers warranty service for most of their products, which is automatically activated if you buy from their website but must be manually registered if you’ve purchased from other channels.

Alternatively, you can buy Level8 luggage and bags from their Amazon store.

We’ve checked that the prices listed on both sites are the same.

That said, the promotions may vary, so keep an eye out for those!

Level8 Voyageur Checked In Luggage review

Level8 Voyageur

First up, let’s review the Voyageur Luggage, which is the large, checked-in model.

It arrived in a well-wrapped protective packaging with bubble wrap around the handle and dust cover over the entire bag.

These may seem like small things, but will ensure that your luggage isn’t dented or damaged during shipping.

The extra attention to detail also adds to the quality of the suitcase.

My first impression about this model is that the vibrant yellow color is extremely attractive! I also love how unique and quirky the design is, which sets your luggage apart from other suitcases.

How well-made is the Voyageur Luggage?

The Voyageur Luggage is constructed from Germany Bayer Makrolon® Polycarbonate Hard Shell, which is a solid and durable material.

One of its main selling points is the wide handle design, which is different from most other suitcases.

Not only does this make it more stable and and sturdy, but it’s also helpful for placing a backpack or tote bag on top of the flat surface.

Additionally, the handle goes up and down really smoothly and I could feel no stiffness to it, which is perfect for when you’re in a hurry while travelling.

The zippers are easy to zip and unzip, which is always a plus in a luggage, and the stitching here is neat.

I especially love the extra detailing on the wheels and zippers too. They make the luggage feel more premium overall!

Finally, the quiet 360° spinner wheels really do roll comfortably. It’s easy to move the luggage around and I felt no resistance at all.

If you’re ever frantically rushing through the airport or a train station, you’ll know just how crucial having smooth wheels are…

What do we like about the Voyageur Luggage?

1. Large capacity

large capacity

Perhaps the main reason for getting the Voyageur is its relatively large capacity, making it an ideal option if you’re travelling long term and need to pack more.

The biggest version at 28” offers 99 L capacity!

Its interior is fully lined with two large compartments for clothes and two zippered pockets for smaller accessories.

There is also a separate dry pocket that may come in handy for all the water lovers out there!

You can just chuck in your wet bathing suit here without worrying about getting your other clothes wet.

Plus, the unconventional design also makes it great for holding large stuff.

2. Excellent organization pockets and compartments

excellent organisation

In addition to the large volume, I absolutely adore the organization system in this luggage.

It makes packing and organizing your belongings SO MUCH easier!

When you first open it up, you’ll find two main compartments.

The one on the right has a breathable net to keep most of your clothes. Inside, there is an additional padded fabric that you can use for shoes, toiletries, or any other things you want to keep separate.

This fabric feels really high-quality and well-put together!

Meanwhile, the second main compartment on the left comprises of two additional pockets.

One of them is also netted, but the other is laminated so that you can’t see through it—this feels useful for keeping valuable! This material has a glossy feel and is waterproof, making it super easy to clean with a wet wipe.

I also think this compartment works great for toiletries or liquids as it will be quick to clean in case anything spills.

All in all, there are plenty of room in here for all your essentials, including smaller pockets to help keep your items well-organized. This can be important in a long-haul journey where your luggage essentially holds everything you have!

3. Whisper-quiet 360° wheels

One great thing about the spinner wheels is that they are super quiet!

The noise from your luggage wheels can get annoying at times, but the Voyageur’s anti-shock feature makes sure that they’re silent.

Of course, the highlight is that they can rotate 360 degrees and I’ve found that the wheels move around smoothly without any hitch.

And Level8’s claims that they will experience less than 2mm of abrasion even after running 276,000 circles.

Obviously, I haven’t been able to test this out, but so far it’s looking very promising!

4. Wide and comfortable handle

One more feature that you might not find in any other suitcases is the wide handle design.

The telescopic handle is made from aluminum alloy that’s super durable.

More than that, this wide trolley system lets you maximize the base for more packing space inside.

Plus, this ensure more stability to your luggage when you’re moving it around, and it becomes easier to stack other bags on top of it!

5. Unique design

Design shouldn’t be discounted when you are choosing the right luggage for your travels.

After all, if you’re going to be spotted with a big luggage on the go, might as well look stylish, right?

As mentioned earlier, I really love the striking yellow color of the Voyageur.

Despite this bright and eye-catching shade, its matte finish gives the luggage a premium and sophisticated feel too.

There are other, more neutral colors you can choose from, including black, grey, and navy.

6. TSA lock

Last but not least, a TSA approved combination lock is always a useful thing to have in your luggage.

Thankfully, you’ll get this with the Level8 Voyageur!

This means security authorities can inspect the content of your suitcase without damaging the lock.

It’s a real time-saver and can give you extra peace of mind when travelling.

What don’t we like about the Voyageur Luggage?

One thing I don’t really buy is that the polycarbonate hard shell material claims to be anti-scratch.

I previously used an IT luggage made from the same material and it got all battered, especially when you’re checking it in during a flight.

So whilst my Voyageur hasn't got any scratches yet, I don't think this material can be considered anti-scratch.

Obviously the better you look after it, the longer it will remain scratch less.

Moreover, an added touch I would love to see are straps inside the main compartment to hold down the clothes. But really this is just me being fussy.

Overall, I’d say that the Voyageur Luggage is sleek and brilliant, and there was nothing I seriously disliked about it.

Level8 Voyageur Carry-On Luggage review

Level8 Voyageur Carry-On Luggage review

The Voyageur Carry-On is essentially the smaller, cabin-sized version of the Voyageur Checked.

You can save up to $60 if you order the 2-piece set that includes both the carry-on and checked version of the Voyageur, which is great for family or couples travel.

It’s got pretty much all the features of its larger counterpart but in a more compact design.

This is great if you’re looking for unique carry-on luggage with a slightly different look from others.

And again, I adore the vibrant yellow of the hard shell here!

How Well-Made Is The Voyageur Carry-On Luggage?

How Well-Made Is The Voyageur Carry-On Luggage

As with the checked Voyageur luggage, the Carry-on version is super well-made with great details too.

It uses the same Germany Bayer Makrolon® Polycarbonate Hard Shell material, and includes a comfortable wide handle that makes your bag more stable and easier to maneuver.

The hardware, from the zippers to ultra-quiet wheels, is also equally high quality, so you don’t have to worry about that.

What Do We Like About The Voyageur Carry-On Luggage?

What Do We Like About The Voyageur Carry-On Luggage

1. Large capacity for a carry-on

Despite being a carry-on size, the smaller Voyageur luggage also boasts a surprisingly large capacity of 43L!

You can easily fit enough clothing for up to weeks' worth if you pack smart enough.

The interior is also well-organized with two large main compartments and two zipped pockets for knickknacks and accessories.

It doesn’t have a divider for your shoes or wet stuff like in the Checked Luggage, but I find you don’t really need it anyway for this one.

2. Durable hard shell

Instead of a micro-diamond hard finish, the Voyageur Carry-On has a Matte Finish Hard Shell.

This is equally strong and durable, but what I love most is that it’s very easy to clean and wipe down. Always a plus if you want to keep your luggage looking new and sleek!

3. Creative wide-handle design

The Voyageur luggage is probably best known for its creative handle design, which is super wide and designed so that it maximizes the packing space inside.

This is what allows you to enjoy a 43L luggage capacity despite the standard cabin-sized dimensions of the bag.

4. Can fit inside your Voyageur Checked luggage

One of my favourite things about this Carry-on is that it fits nicely in the bigger version, which is perfect for storing away.

Not to mention that it looks pretty cool when you’re travelling with both luggage and they look coordinated.

What Don’t We Like About The Voyageur Carry-On Luggage?

Moving on to what I don’t like about the Voyageur Carry-On

I must say that there’s not much to complain about, except for what I’ve mentioned in the previous section about the material not being literally anti-scratch.

It still feels tougher and stronger than most luggage, but I would still try to be careful when handling it.

It’s honestly an excellent carry-on luggage and I can’t think of real drawbacks to it!

Overall, I’d say that the Voyageur Luggage is sleek and brilliant, and there was nothing I seriously disliked about it.

Level8 Road Runner Carry-on Luggage review

Level8 also has several carry-on luggage, and for this range let’s take a closer look to the Road Runner.

Just like the other model, this one also came with a great packaging and protective layer, including a white dust bag protector and extra bubble padding within the box.

Another unique detail is that as soon as you open the product from packaging, there is an instruction manual attached to the suitcase.

I found this super helpful when it came to understanding the suitcase and how the locks work…

How well-made is the Road Runner Carry-on?

How well-made is the Road Runner Carry-on

Ultimately, the Road Runner is just as well-made and solid.

I got the navy color, which has an almost glossy finish and looks beautiful without being too bright. It also comes in black if you prefer a basic color option.

It has a great length and depth, which should be able to fit in most aircraft overhead compartments.

While the handles aren’t as wide as the Voyageur model, it’s still very sturdy and opens up smoothly.

There is a button on top that you can press to extend or contract it and achieve the appropriate handle height.

The spinner wheels can rotate 360 degrees, which makes moving the luggage around an easy and effortless experience.

Meanwhile, the front of the suitcase has a nice and elegant detailing. The small, almost 3D Level8 logo looks really nice.

Oh, another thoughtful detail is the yellow logo on the wheels, which subtly matches the navy shell.

What do we like about the Road Runner Carry-on?

1. Laptop & front compartment

laptop and front compartment

The Road Runner is extremely unique in that it comes with a laptop compartment and easy access front pocket.

This is perfect for storing your laptop and gadgets.

The adjustable strap keeps your laptop secure and unmoving, no matter its size, whereas the elastic straps on the side can provide extra room when needed.

In addition to safety, this laptop compartment strap has a nice detailing with another velcro to keep it in place.

In front of the laptop part, there is another tiny pocket that could be handy for other electronics like a Kindle or tablet.

Plus, there are two velcro attachments on the side of this front compartment. I thought this was cool because it lets you adjust the size of how much you want the suitcase to open.

Not to mention that these add additional support for the entire front compartment!

Better yet, there are other smaller pockets here where you can keep your small items and accessories organized.

I also love the fact that this front compartment gives you fast access.

For instance, if you’re going through security and need to grab your liquids, you can do it! There are lots of pockets here to securely fit your toiletries.

great organisation

2. Well-organized interior

Now onto the interior of the Road Runner, which I think is just as well-organized and exciting.

The larger compartment on the right has adjustable straps that feel very strong and flexible. This is the perfect place for storing the bulk of your clothing.

There is a zipper underneath that you can use to store dirty laundry or shoes.

Although I did find opening it a bit tricky as the zipper is quite tiny, but once you get to it, it opens easily. I’m guessing this is because there’s a lot of extra fabric material that gets in the way of the zipper.

However this isn’t a big problem at all!

Overall, there are lots of room and space here, while the dark grey lining itself is a lovely color.

To the left of the luggage, you will find two smaller compartments where you can fit valuables such as money, passport, cards, or even keys.

Best of all, when you unzip this compartment, there is an extra pocket underneath and I assume this is a nice anti-theft feature that can be useful for city breaks!

3. Carry-on size

carry on size

This luggage measures 14.5”L x 9.1”W x 21.9”H in dimension, which is small enough and convenient for a carry-on.

It’s great for those on a weekend or business trip and don’t want to worry about checking in your luggage.

The Road Runner should fit in the overhead compartment of most planes.

4. Quiet spinner wheels

quiet spinner wheels

Just like the larger Voyageur model, the Road Runner also comes fitted with ultra quiet 360° spinner wheels.

This makes it super simple to maneuver and I’ve once more found the luggage easy to roll around with only the smallest resistance.

The abrasion will be less than 2mm after running 276,000 circles, which simply proves how durable and long-lasting Level8 luggage can be!

5. Sleek and beautiful detailing

In general, the Road Runner just feels very chic and beautiful.

Despite the simple navy color that I got, it looks super elegant and high-end, and you can tell from the detailing that it’s well-made.

Moreover, I observed that there are 8 horizontal imprinted dents too. I don’t know whether or not this is intentional, but it makes for a fun touch!

6. TSA lock and front pocket lock

tsa lock

This luggage includes a TSA-approved combination lock and front pocket lock that are not only safe but will save your travel time.

These secure locks are easy to use and familiarise yourself with.

In fact, I usually have a hard time figuring out how locks work on suitcases, but I’ve found these ones to be very accessible and straightforward.

Of course, the manual that it came with helped a ton!

What don’t we like about the Road Runner Carry-on?

If I had to nitpick, I would say that the stitching at the bottom inside of the front compartment was a bit questionable and not the tidiest.

But there are extra velcros on the side for additional support, which can be useful for when you’re opening the front pocket in full.

At 8.9lbs, the Road Runner may be a tad heavier than other suitcases, such as the Horizon luggage.

And yet I've got to say that it seems to be more durable, while the hard shell is solid, water resistant, and has a high-end feel to it.

Another thing is that the outer shell feels like it might be easily scratch or marked but that is just the nature of the material.

Should you get the Level8 Checked or Carry-on luggage?

When it comes down to it, both the checked and carry-on luggage I’ve tried are really great.

So, should you get the Voyageur or the Road Runner?

If you’re a long-term traveller who wants a big space to store all your belongings, I highly recommend going for the Voyageur.

You can choose from the 28'', 26'', or 24'' variety depending on your specific needs.

On the other hand, you might prefer the Road Runner luggage if you want something smaller and more compact.

I also think that the Level8 carry-on is perfect for photographers, travel bloggers and vloggers, and other digital nomads as it has a fantastic front pocket with a laptop compartment.

Overall verdict: Is Level8 luggage worth buying?

The question remains whether Level8 luggage is worth buying.

All I can say is that yes, they are!
