5 Best eSIMs for Bali! (All eSIMs I've PERSONALLY tried!)

Sim Local remains my top pick for Bali — because it’s not just about convenience, but also about transparent pricing, flexibility, and easy-to-use global coverage, especially if you plan to visit multiple countries around Asia (or beyond).

When I’m talking about Sim Local, I’ll be referring to their Indonesia eSIM, which covers Bali, and the rest of Indonesia, if you fancy venturing further out to Lombok, or even Java (which you absolutely should do!)

Let’s have a look at some of the pricing that Sim Local offers for Bali. 

Based on recent data, Sim Local offers fixed-data plans for Indonesia — often the most suitable for holiday-length stays rather than heavy usage.

• Mid-tier options scale up depending on data and validity — making it easy to match your plan to how long you’re staying and how much data you expect to use.

Another feature I love about Sim Locals website is the tool that allows you to input your holiday metrics and it will recommend an eSIM plan to suit your needs. So you can input whether you only lightly use your phone, or you never put it down! 

For example, I put Indonesia as my destination, chose a month long trip (Bali is the sort of place you could end up staying a month!), and put my internet usage as semi moderate, and it suggested a 3 GB plan for me.

The tool also tells you roughly what 1GB can get you in terms of voicecalling, streaming or using Google Maps, so will give you a better indication of what data you will actually need.

As you can see from the image, there are a variety of eSIM plans available, and if you do want heavy data (20GB), $34 for 20GB works out at less than $2 a GB, which is a good deal! Especially since you can hotspot that data.

• Hot spotting is allowed: this is always a pro for me, and especially useful for somewhere like Bali, where it’s a digital nomad haven, so there’s a good chance you’ll have a laptop with you, and sometimes you want to work more remotely (I’m thinking rice fields in Sidemen, or more remote beaches up north- worth going to), and not rely on WiFi! 

 Cons of Sim Local eSIM for Bali 

• The Indonesia eSIM is data-only, meaning no local phone number and no standard SMS/voice service, which is typical for most eSIM providers, but you can use WhatsApp to make phone calls (and FYI, Bali is a very WhatsApp heavy nation!). So if you don’t already use it, you’re going to want to start when out there! They use it as a means of communication for booking tours, mopeds, places to eat, and more!
• Heavy data users (streaming, hotspotting, constant video calls) may find even mid-range plans limiting depending on their habits.
• As with all eSIMs, you need a fully unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone — if your device isn’t compatible, you’d still need a physical SIM.

• Sim Local sells more than just country-specific eSIMs — they also offer regional Asia / multi-country plans and Global eSIM plans.
• Their global/ multi-destination plans cover many countries worldwide — giving flexibility if you're planning a multi-stop journey rather than just a single destination.
• Some of those multi-destination/global plans have fixed data-allowances (e.g. 10 GB, 18 GB, etc.) and cover many destinations, which allows switching between countries without needing a new SIM. 

Why this matters

• Perfect for multi-stop trips — If you’re travelling to multiple countries (for example, Indonesia → Thailand → Malaysia → somewhere else), a single global/Asia eSIM means you don’t have to buy a new SIM (or eSIM) for every stop.
  
• Convenience & flexibility — Buy once, install before you travel, and roam across countries with a single eSIM — no need to hunt for local SIM shops or worry about compatibility in each country.
• Back-up option — Even if you start with a “Bali/Indonesia-only” eSIM, having a Global/Asia eSIM ready can be useful if your plans change mid-trip.

2. Simovo — Great unlimited & hassle-free Bali eSIM

Simovo offers eSIM plans specifically marketed for Bali, with unlimited data options — ideal if you plan on streaming, uploading photos, or using your phone as a hotspot. Because everything is managed online, it avoids any SIM-swap hassle and makes it easy to get connected as soon as you land. 

They offer both a selection of “data” only plans, starting at 1GB all the way up to 20GB, or if you want to go for unlimited data, you can choose between a daily allowance of 500MB or 1GB.

I like the fact you’ve got options, so there’s a good chance to find something that suits your travel style and internet usage.

With all their plans you can hot spot to other devices, (always a plus), and you can top up data, so if you find out you've run out, or you simply need more, you can top up your data, rather than activate a new eSIM.

Pros of Simovo eSIM for Bali 

• Unlimited data means you’ll have access to a fresh data allowance daily 
• Online purchase and delivery: no need to visit a store or carry a physical SIM card.
• Simple installation — just scan QR code, which makes it basically plug-and-play.

Cons of Simovo eSIM for Bali

• Unlimited plans may not be enough for a heavy data user 
• As with many travel eSIMs, the plan is “data only,” so not suitable if you need local phone calls or SMS.

3. Simify — Solid all-rounder for travel and everyday use

Simify offers a variety of eSIM plans for Bali — from modest data bundles to larger/unlimited data, with a range of validity periods. I love how easy to use their website and app is.

• Easy setup and no roaming fees — good alternative to expensive international roaming plans.
• Keeps your home number intact — you don’t have to give up your UK number while using the Bali eSIM.

Cons of Simify eSIM for Bali 

• As with other eSIM plans, this is usually data-only — calls/SMS are not guaranteed.
• If you pick a smaller plan (not unlimited), heavy data users may find data allowances limiting depending on streaming or hotspot use

4. Maya Mobile — Budget-friendly option for shorter trips

Maya Mobile offers prepaid travel eSIMs for Indonesia with simple 4G data plans.

Their plans start small — which might suit short stays, budget travellers, or lighter internet usage.

Maya Mobile are one of the first eSIM providers I used back in 2022 and I think they offer a solid product.

Pros of Maya Mobile for Bali 

• Affordable — their eSIM plans start at a low price point, which is good if you don’t need huge amounts of data.
• Easy and quick installation — no SIM card needed, just install and activate when you want.
• Option to top-up or extend data later — offers flexibility if you decide you need more data mid-trip.

Cons of Maya Mobile for Bali

• Data amounts may be limited — might not suit heavy data users (streaming, hotspot, frequent uploads).
• Coverage or speed may be less robust compared to providers using major networks or 4G/5G — depends on where you are in Bali.

5. Ubigi — Good for travellers who want stable global connectivity and easy top-ups

While not Bali-exclusive, Ubigi offers global travel eSIM data plans that can be used in Indonesia. Their travel-eSIM data plans are a popular pick for travellers wanting guaranteed data with easy activation.

Pros of Ubigi eSIM for Bali

• Reliable international provider — good if you travel through multiple countries or want a “travel-ready” eSIM.
• Easy top-ups via their app even mid-trip — handy if you run out of data while in Bali.
• No need to remove your existing SIM — keeps your home number intact if needed.

Cons of Ubigi eSIM for Bali 

• Since it’s a global/international eSIM, speeds and coverage in Indonesia may be more variable compared to a dedicated local provider.
• Data plan sizes may be limiting if you stream heavily or use hotspot a lot.

Which phones are compatible with eSIM?

Before you buy any eSIM for Bali, it’s important to make sure your device supports eSIM technology.

• On iPhone: go to Settings → Mobile Data / Cellular → Add eSIM. If the option appears, your phone supports eSIM.
• On Android: go to Settings → SIM / Mobile Network / SIM card manager → Look for “Add eSIM” or “Add Data Plan”. If present, you’re good to go.
• Another quick method (for many Androids): dial *#06# — if your phone shows a secondary IMEI or an “EID,” that typically means it supports eSIM.
• Most newer phones (from around 2018 onward) support eSIM — but older devices may not. Always double-check if yours is unlocked and eSIM-ready
