About Us – Why You Can Trust Our Campervan Advice

Our first ever campervan rental in Ireland

We’re full‑time van‑lifers with over three years living on wheels. In fact, our first ever campervan rental was in Ireland all the way back in 2019.

Since then we've traveled all across Europe, Canada, the USA, Central America & South America in campervans.

Either in our own van or through other rental companies, discovering want makes a great provider and what doesn't.

As Cazzy is from Ireland, this sacred isle always holds a special place in our hearts and we regularly revisit and tour, even if just for a week or two.

Most recently in late 2024 spending two weeks in Donegal and Galway; where Phoebe (our pup) had her first experience running on the beach.

We wild camped right by this beach in Sligo

So we know not just the island inside and out, but also the different companies renting there and what sort of vehicle is best suited to different style of renters. All of which we cover below.

Campervan adventures now run in our blood and we hope the guide below is useful in helping you decide which vehicle is best for your upcoming trip to beautiful Ireland.

Quick answer: what to book for Ireland

If you want the short, practical answer, focus on the van setup first, not the rental company.

The best way to do this is through the comparison site Motorhome Republic (more on them below).

For Ireland, most travellers will have the best experience in a campervan that has:

  • Good heating
  • Compact dimensions (Ireland’s rural roads are narrow)
  • A practical indoor cooking setup
  • Comfortable seating for rainy days

Ireland’s scenery is incredible, especially along the Wild Atlantic Way, but the weather is unpredictable year-round. Rain and wind are common, even in summer. A very basic sleeper van can work for short trips, but most people underestimate how much time they’ll spend inside the vehicle when conditions turn.

We got super lucky when we rented our smaller camper (with Spaceships who are now no longer operating). We went in May and the weather was stunning with super long days for sightseeing. But honestly, if the weather turned there’s no way we could have just enjoyed ourselves in the vehicle itself.

That being said, smaller campervans make driving much easier on rural roads, where single-track lanes and tight bends are common.

Comfort and drivability matter more here than saving a little money on the daily rate. But do think carefully about your exact needs and how much you plan on actually doing and seeing in Ireland.

A quick example of what works well in Ireland

When you search with those features selected, you’ll typically see compact campervans and mid-size motorhomes appearing from well-established UK and Irish operators.

As shown in example search results (prices shown at time of search and will change), you’ll often find:

  • Heated campervans suitable for Ireland’s damp climate
  • 2–4 berth vans with indoor cooking and seating
  • Automatic transmission options
  • Reasonable mileage allowances for full-country routes

For most travellers, a compact 2–4 berth campervan strikes the best balance between comfort and ease of driving.

The easiest way to find the right vans (without guessing)

Rather than trying to memorise company names, the fastest way to find the right campervan is to run a search with your dates and group size on Motorhome Republic, then use the filters properly.

Once you’re on the results page, look down the left hand side where you’ll e able to filter by things like:

  • Automatic vs manual transmission
  • Toilet
  • Shower
  • Heating in the main cabin

From there, you can see what is actually available for your dates and compare interior layouts side by side. In turn allowing you to balance the comfort you want versus the budget you actually have to spend.

This avoids choosing a company first and only later realising the right vehicle type is already booked.

How are these campervan rental companies ranked?

We have come up with our own ranking system to make sure you’re aware of the best rental options and that you’re given the most up-to-date information.

First of all, we compared 3 dozen different rental companies by looking at their Google reviews (+ rating), Trustpilot scores, and Motorhome Republic Ratings.

After comparing this data and also taking into account the following, we have ranked the RV companies so it’s easy to see which ones came out on top.

  • Vehicle quality and fleet age
  • Our own experience around the world with campervans
  • Suitability for Irish road conditions
  • Availability during peak summer months
  • Transparent pricing and mileage policies
  • Consistent user feedback across platforms

Companies with limited fleets, unclear pricing, or consistently poor customer feedback were not ranked highly.

How to book your camper or motorhome rental

For all rental firms below, wherever possible, I have provided links to their page on Motorhome Republic.

I recommend this as the best way to book your chosen rental, as they offer the largest array of available campers and motorhomes in Ireland.

At the least, it's the best place to begin your search and see what's actually available.

During the busy summer months in Ireland, campervan rentals book up WELL in advance.

So many of the top firms may already have limited availability.

A quick search on Motorhome Republic will showcase which of the top firms still have availability for your dates.

Other reasons why we love Motorhome Republic:

  • Best prices - As a motorhome and campervan price comparison site, they offer the most competitive rates out there. Even if you did find it cheaper elsewhere, you can access their price guarantee.
  • Vehicle Guarantee - More importantly, they guarantee you a vehicle for your chosen dates. Even if your chosen firm lets you down (for whatever unforeseen reason) they will find you an equivalent vehicle for your trip. So there's no reason to cancel your whole holiday to Ireland.
  • A reputable brand - They've been around for years, and have processed more than 3 million rental days globally.
  • Full support - They have a customer support team on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help you with any issues before or after your booking has been made.

10 best campervan rentals in Ireland

1. Roadsurfer – Best overall campervan rental in Ireland for modern, easy-to-drive vans

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Dublin
  • Price range - $$
  • Best suited for - Couples, small families and first-time renters
  • Availability - Check here

Overview:

If you want a modern campervan that feels easy to book, easy to collect, and easy to drive, then Roadsurfer is a great all-round choice for Ireland.

They rent from Dublin, which is an ideal starting point for an Ireland road trip. Their rental package is also very strong. Unlimited mileage, a free second driver, 24/7 mobility support, and flexible cancellation are all included.

What really helps Roadsurfer stand out is that a lot of their fleet is built around compact campervans rather than oversized motorhomes. That makes them a much less intimidating option for driving narrow rural roads, small villages, and coastal routes in Ireland.

The whole setup feels very geared towards convenience too. Their online booking is simple, their pick up system is well organised, and they also offer pet-friendly rentals across their wider platform.

Vehicles on offer:

Roadsurfer has a really nice mix of smaller campervans and slightly roomier RV style models available from Dublin.

At the more compact end, you’ve got options like the Surfer Suite and Sunrise Suite. These are both based on the VW California and sleep up to four people. They come with an integrated kitchen, an outdoor shower, and a pop top roof, so they are ideal if you want something comfortable but still very manageable on the road.

If you want a bit more space, then they also offer larger models like the Road House, Couple Cottage, and Cozy Cottage. These add more room inside, with some including a proper wet bath, hot water, and toilet. That makes Roadsurfer a good option whether you want a smaller campervan for two or something more practical for a longer trip.

2. Anywhere Campers - Best campervan rental in Ireland for flexible routes and availability

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Anywhere!
  • Price range - $$-$$$
  • Best suited for -  Groups/families
  • Availability - Check here
Anywhere Campers Ireland rental

Overview:

What makes Anywhere Campers stand out is their commitment to let you hire a camper from almost ANYWHERE in Europe.

Get off the plane or ferry in Ireland and they meet you there. And trust me, this is a really unique offering.

When we hired from Spaceships in Ireland, one of the few downsides was the need to catch a really awkward bus out to the middle of nowhere in order to pick up the vehicle.

Making these guys the perfect way to start and finish your journey stress-free.

Vehicles on offer:

All vehicles are built on the Adria Matrix range, featuring either automatic or manual gearboxes.

Despite being brought up driving manual gearboxes, based on experience driving Europe in an automatic, I would highly recommend getting the automatic if you can.

If you’re driving for a few hours or more every day it makes the whole diving experience so much easier.

60% of their vans are brand new, and the rest are less than 2 years old.

As their vans are larger, they are designed primarily for larger groups or families.

Getting a quote isn’t as straightforward as some companies, as it will depend on exactly where in Ireland you want to pick up your vehicle from and drop it off.

So you’ll need to submit a quote form and they will get back to you with the best plan for your needs.

3. Just Go – Best motorhome rental in Ireland for airport convenience and strong fleet size

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Dublin
  • Price range - $$
  • Best suited for - Families and longer road trips

Overview:

Just Go is one of the most established motorhome rental companies in Ireland, with a strong presence near Dublin Airport.

Their depot location makes them a very convenient option if you are flying into Ireland and want to get on the road quickly. Transfers from the airport are typically included, which helps keep the whole process simple.

They specialise in larger motorhomes rather than compact campervans. This means more interior space, proper beds, and fully equipped kitchens across most of their fleet.

Just Go is a good option if comfort is a priority. Their vehicles are well equipped for longer trips and are particularly suited to families or groups who want more room while travelling around Ireland.

Vehicles on offer:

Just Go focuses on modern motorhomes designed for comfort and practicality.

Their fleet includes a range of 2 berth, 4 berth, and 6 berth motorhomes. These typically come with fixed beds or convertible sleeping areas, along with onboard kitchens and bathroom facilities.

Many of their vehicles include features like heating, hot water, and built-in storage, making them well suited for travelling in Ireland’s changing weather conditions.

Overall, Just Go is best suited to travellers who are comfortable driving a larger vehicle and want a more spacious home on wheels for their trip.

4. Cookies Campers - Best for brand-new Volkswagen camper rental in Dublin

Overview:

If you're looking to rent from a smaller, family owned business, then Cookies Campers are absolutely perfect!

All models are automatic for an easy drive, and if you did have any issues you are in personal contact with Sarah & Paul, the owners of the company, through their 24-hour WhatsApp helpline.

Another great thing to consider is that they are happy to support you in help planning your Ireland road trip itinerary. Helping to make your trip as perfect as it should be!

Vehicles on offer:

Better still, all vehicles they offer are Volkswagens, arguably the ideal vehicle for navigating Ireland's twisty-turning roads (especially if you're new to driving on the left hand-side and on smaller country roads).

2. The VW Beach:

This is a small and zippy campervan that drives like a car. This can sleep 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. It has a 2-stove hob and cooking utensils. It is a great option for customers who plan to stay in a campsite.

Remember to use code DREAMBIG100 for €100 off your booking

Bunk campervans Ireland

Overview:

Their website boasts an array of information on road trip ideas and planning an epic trip to this amazing country. Not to mention, this rental company can be found on Motorhome Republic, our favourite platform when it comes to booking campervan and motorhome rentals!

Vehicles on offer:

Bunk boasts the largest campervan rental fleet in Ireland, offering vans equipped to sleep between 2 and 6 guests.

Their smaller 2-person vans are great for those of you travelling as a couple, looking to get off the beaten track and explore winding streets and countryside. Also perfect if you’re inexperienced with driving larger vehicles.

They also have larger campers that are still only designed to sleep 2 people. Giving you extra indoor space for washing and showering, enjoying a little more luxury than the smaller vehicles can offer.

And of course, they have a host of larger motorhomes too, designed specifically for bigger families or groups of friends.

All of their vans have been custom-built and designed based on Bunk’s requirements. All vehicles are less than 3 years old too, which is great for ensuring reliability when out on the road!

Overall, their vans come equipped with everything you could possibly need, from a firm with more than a decade's worth of experience renting campervans in Ireland.

6. Mcrent - Largest motorhome hire company in Europe

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Dublin & Limerick
  • Price range - $$

McRent motorhomes Ireland

Overview:

If you’re looking to hire an Irish campervan from a trusted brand, then McRent could be the way forward.

As the largest camper rental company in Europe, they know what they are doing and continue to invest huge amounts each year in the latest fleet.

In fact, all of their campers are a maximum of 2 years old.

They also have a rental depot over in Limerick, nearer the western edge of Ireland. Which could be useful if you don’t plan on flying into Dublin or Belfast.

Or, if you are already in Ireland!

Vehicles on offer:

In Ireland, McRent currently offers a fleet of larger motorhomes, ideally suited for groups or families.

No matter which vehicle you opt for, you get unlimited mileage and a recently converted camper.

Prices start at a little over €100 per day, which is a LOT cheaper than if you were to stay in hotels and Airbnbs!

Plus, all vehicles come fully equipped with cooking and toilet facilities, and most often a shower too.

It all depends on which vehicle you opt for.

7. Rambling Rover - Best for automatic camper hire in Ireland

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Co. Meath
  • Price range - $$$
  • Best suited for - Groups and families
  • Availability - Check here
Rambling Rover Rental Company

Overview:

Rambling Rover is another top pick for campervan rentals in Ireland.

This rental company is known for its luxurious vehicles, but it also offers the country’s largest range of automatic campers - perfect for those who can’t drive a manual car.

Rambling Rover offers a modern fleet so all vehicles are top of the range. They also offer pet-friendly campervan hire so the whole family can come along for the ride!

Full insurance is provided with each rental and it’s possible to travel outside of Ireland too (upon request). Another bonus of booking with this company is that bicycle hire is available for an additional €5 per person per day.

Just be aware that drivers must be 25 years or older and have a full licence.

Vehicles on offer:

Rambling Rover offers a variety of large motorhomes which sleep between 2-6 people.

Those after a large vehicle should check out the Fiat Ducato 2.3 litre. This automatic motorhome sleeps up to 6 people and features an indoor bathroom (with toilet), spacious lounge area, and kitchen (with a triplex cooker and fridge).

There’s also the Peugeot Boxer 2.2 which sleeps 4.

No matter which vehicle you go for, you’ll have a cooker (with an oven and hob), a fridge, a TV, and spacious wardrobes, so there’s no shortage of storage space.

8. Lazy Days - Best VW-style campervan rental in Ireland for couples

  • Pick up/drop off location/s - Wicklow
  • Price range - $$-$$$
  • Best suited for - Couples
  • Availability - Check here
Lazy Days VW campervan hire Ireland

Overview:

For those of you looking for modern Volkswagen campers, this is your go-to firm.

They don’t hire out the traditional larger motorhomes, instead sticking exclusively to recently converted T5s and T6s.

Lazy Days even does all of the campervan conversion work themselves and sells vehicles that are no longer used for rentals.

You will need to make your way to Wicklow in order to pick up your camper. Which, if you’re flying into Dublin airport, is relatively easy to reach by a range of public transport options.

Vehicles on offer:

All campers are Volkswagen T5 or T6 vehicles and come fully equipped with cooking facilities.

They are all designed to sleep 2 or 4 people, but of course, the space inside is more limited compared to a large motorhome.

This is fine so long as you’re happy with a little less luxury and space than what some of the larger campervans/motorhomes can offer.

It’s possible to hire some optional extras from Lazy Days, such as sat-nav, linen or towels. Just be sure to book these in advance.

They are a solid option if you prefer booking with a recognised global company and want a straightforward rental process.

Vehicles on offer:

Apollo’s fleet in Ireland is centred around larger motorhomes suited to a range of group sizes.

Campervan rental prices in Ireland (by season + vehicle type)

Campervan rental prices in Ireland vary mainly by season and vehicle type. Instead of focusing on exact daily prices, it’s more useful to understand where each option sits from lower-cost to premium.

For a rough guide:

  • Lower: €80–150 per day
  • Mid-range: €150–250 per day
  • Premium: €250–400+ per day

Summer prices (June to August)

This is peak season and the most expensive time to rent.

  • Lower-cost: Basic 2-berth campervans
  • Mid-range: Heated 2–4 berth vans
  • Premium: Larger motorhomes

Shoulder season prices (May and September)

Often the best value overall, with more availability and slightly lower rates.

Off-season prices (October to April)

  • Lower headline prices
  • Fewer vehicles operating
  • Heating becomes more important
  • Honestly, a GREAT time to travel (especially if you get lucky with the weather)
