We’re full‑time van‑lifers with over three years living on wheels. In fact, our first ever campervan rental was in Ireland all the way back in 2019.
Since then we've traveled all across Europe, Canada, the USA, Central America & South America in campervans.
Either in our own van or through other rental companies, discovering want makes a great provider and what doesn't.
As Cazzy is from Ireland, this sacred isle always holds a special place in our hearts and we regularly revisit and tour, even if just for a week or two.
Most recently in late 2024 spending two weeks in Donegal and Galway; where Phoebe (our pup) had her first experience running on the beach.
So we know not just the island inside and out, but also the different companies renting there and what sort of vehicle is best suited to different style of renters. All of which we cover below.

If you want the short, practical answer, focus on the van setup first, not the rental company.

For Ireland, most travellers will have the best experience in a campervan that has:
Ireland’s scenery is incredible, especially along the Wild Atlantic Way, but the weather is unpredictable year-round. Rain and wind are common, even in summer. A very basic sleeper van can work for short trips, but most people underestimate how much time they’ll spend inside the vehicle when conditions turn.
We got super lucky when we rented our smaller camper (with Spaceships who are now no longer operating). We went in May and the weather was stunning with super long days for sightseeing. But honestly, if the weather turned there’s no way we could have just enjoyed ourselves in the vehicle itself.
That being said, smaller campervans make driving much easier on rural roads, where single-track lanes and tight bends are common.
Comfort and drivability matter more here than saving a little money on the daily rate. But do think carefully about your exact needs and how much you plan on actually doing and seeing in Ireland.

We have come up with our own ranking system to make sure you’re aware of the best rental options and that you’re given the most up-to-date information.
First of all, we compared 3 dozen different rental companies by looking at their Google reviews (+ rating), Trustpilot scores, and Motorhome Republic Ratings.
After comparing this data and also taking into account the following, we have ranked the RV companies so it’s easy to see which ones came out on top.
Companies with limited fleets, unclear pricing, or consistently poor customer feedback were not ranked highly.

If you want a modern campervan that feels easy to book, easy to collect, and easy to drive, then Roadsurfer is a great all-round choice for Ireland.
They rent from Dublin, which is an ideal starting point for an Ireland road trip. Their rental package is also very strong. Unlimited mileage, a free second driver, 24/7 mobility support, and flexible cancellation are all included.
What really helps Roadsurfer stand out is that a lot of their fleet is built around compact campervans rather than oversized motorhomes. That makes them a much less intimidating option for driving narrow rural roads, small villages, and coastal routes in Ireland.

They specialise in larger motorhomes rather than compact campervans. This means more interior space, proper beds, and fully equipped kitchens across most of their fleet.

Bunk Campers has been around since 2007, so have built up a trusted reputation as a reliable rental firm.
All vehicles come with the basics you’d need for a holiday to Ireland, but you can also rent extras, such as bedding or towels.

They also have larger campers that are still only designed to sleep 2 people. Giving you extra indoor space for washing and showering, enjoying a little more luxury than the smaller vehicles can offer.

If you’re looking to hire an Irish campervan from a trusted brand, then McRent could be the way forward.
As the largest camper rental company in Europe, they know what they are doing and continue to invest huge amounts each year in the latest fleet.
In fact, all of their campers are a maximum of 2 years old.
They also have a rental depot over in Limerick, nearer the western edge of Ireland. Which could be useful if you don’t plan on flying into Dublin or Belfast.
Or, if you are already in Ireland!
In Ireland, McRent currently offers a fleet of larger motorhomes, ideally suited for groups or families.
No matter which vehicle you opt for, you get unlimited mileage and a recently converted camper.
Prices start at a little over €100 per day, which is a LOT cheaper than if you were to stay in hotels and Airbnbs!
Plus, all vehicles come fully equipped with cooking and toilet facilities, and most often a shower too.
It all depends on which vehicle you opt for.
Rambling Rover is another top pick for campervan rentals in Ireland.
This rental company is known for its luxurious vehicles, but it also offers the country’s largest range of automatic campers - perfect for those who can’t drive a manual car.
Rambling Rover offers a modern fleet so all vehicles are top of the range. They also offer pet-friendly campervan hire so the whole family can come along for the ride!
Full insurance is provided with each rental and it’s possible to travel outside of Ireland too (upon request). Another bonus of booking with this company is that bicycle hire is available for an additional €5 per person per day.
Just be aware that drivers must be 25 years or older and have a full licence.
Rambling Rover offers a variety of large motorhomes which sleep between 2-6 people.
Those after a large vehicle should check out the Fiat Ducato 2.3 litre. This automatic motorhome sleeps up to 6 people and features an indoor bathroom (with toilet), spacious lounge area, and kitchen (with a triplex cooker and fridge).
There’s also the Peugeot Boxer 2.2 which sleeps 4.
No matter which vehicle you go for, you’ll have a cooker (with an oven and hob), a fridge, a TV, and spacious wardrobes, so there’s no shortage of storage space.
For those of you looking for modern Volkswagen campers, this is your go-to firm.
They don’t hire out the traditional larger motorhomes, instead sticking exclusively to recently converted T5s and T6s.
Lazy Days even does all of the campervan conversion work themselves and sells vehicles that are no longer used for rentals.
You will need to make your way to Wicklow in order to pick up your camper. Which, if you’re flying into Dublin airport, is relatively easy to reach by a range of public transport options.
All campers are Volkswagen T5 or T6 vehicles and come fully equipped with cooking facilities.
They are all designed to sleep 2 or 4 people, but of course, the space inside is more limited compared to a large motorhome.
This is fine so long as you’re happy with a little less luxury and space than what some of the larger campervans/motorhomes can offer.
It’s possible to hire some optional extras from Lazy Days, such as sat-nav, linen or towels. Just be sure to book these in advance.
Apollo is a well-known motorhome rental company that operates across multiple countries, including Ireland.
They offer rentals from Dublin, making them a convenient starting point for exploring the country. As an international brand, they bring a consistent rental experience that many travellers will already be familiar with.
