What are the best places to visit in Flores, Guatemala?

Flores is a beautiful island. There are a good number of places to see, history to learn and things to do. Here are some suggestions for you:

  • Tour the famous ruins - Flores is close to Guatemala's Mayan ruins. This is perhaps the most common attraction here. I would suggest setting aside at least one day to visit the Tikal Mayan ruins and another to visit Uaxactun. Having a guide is also a great idea since they can tell you all about the history of these places as you walk around.
  • Try out Jorge’s Rope Swing - This is a simple family-owned swing and can be lots of fun. For those daring enough, you can jump from this swing and into the river below. Otherwise, just swinging here is quite exciting and a great pass time after touring other places.
  • Walk around the island - It can take you less than half an hour walking all round since Flores Island isn’t too big. But since you’ll probably be stopping here and there to snap some photos and admire the views, this can be a great activity on a nice calm evening.
