Loch Lomond is a pretty darn big lake! But it is pretty easy to drive to any area within half an hour. So, regardless of where you choose to stay, you’ll always be within a short driving distance from other locations!

But there are 3 main popular places to base yourself in Loch Lomond. Afterwards, I’ll dive into what I believe to be the 15 best places to stay around Loch Lomond.

1. Balloch 

Situated on the southern shores of Loch Lomond, Balloch is a small village offering a wide range of indoor, outdoor, and water-based activities alongside fantastic shopping and dining for all the family. It’s often regarded as the “gateway” to Loch Lomond!

2. Luss

This pretty conservation village is situated almost 10 miles south of Tarbet on the western shore of Loch Lomond. This is a popular spot for holidaymakers to visit and it boasts lots of charm.  At Rossdhu House, there is a championship golf course that hosts the Barclays Scottish Open each year in July.

3. Drymen 

A quaint but beautiful village that lies in the hills at the western end of the Campsie Fells, overlooking the Endrick Water as it reaches Loch Lomond. This is a popular base to explore all of Loch Lomond, whose eastern shore offers some of the most amazing scenery in all of the National Park. It’s also possible to rent bikes in Drymen to follow the Loch Lomond cycleway.

Getting to Loch Lomond 

Loch Lomond is only 30 minutes away from Glasgow, and since Glasgow has an international airport, it’s super easy to get to and from Loch Lomond! 

You can also easily reach Loch Lomond from Edinburgh, though it will take more than twice as long. 

We visited Loch Lomond in our campervan as a part of a Scotland road trip, but I 100% recommend that you have your own vehicle to explore.
