After 4 weeks backpacking through India, our second-to-last stop was Agra.
Home to the sight we had been most excited to see during our travels …
As such, we wanted to make sure we made the most of our stay by finding a great hotel with close access and, ideally, views of the Taj Mahal itself.
Well, after tonnes of research, I think we found the best place possible, and truly did have an incredible stay.

We love this hotel and chose it for 4 key reasons:

The Taj Mahal is the best sight in India so it's worth making the most of your time here.

There’s a good chance you've heard of Radisson Blu before, as they are a part of the very popular worldwide Radisson hotel chain.
They have luxury hotels located all around the world, at almost all of the world's most popular cities.
Typically they charge $200 or more a night per stay, so the deal you get here is outstanding!
I honestly believe that, because of what we paid, you'd struggle to find any 5 star hotels in Agra of the same quality.
Here’s a quick rundown of many of the facilities they have on offer:
Of course, they’ve got everything you'd expect to find in a 5 star hotel, such as modern bathrooms, friendly staff and impeccably clean facilities everywhere.
It’s also worth noting that food at the Radisson Blu Agra is also very affordable.
The lunch and dinner buffet was just 1200 rupees which, though more expensive than cheap restaurants in India, is well worth what you pay!
Simply put, we had a wonderful stay here and decided to stay for 2 nights instead of just 1.
I think 2 nights is a good minimum. That way, you get to spend at least a full day relaxing by the pool and unwinding whilst enjoying your views.
If you want to see other sights in and around Agra, then 2 or 3 nights is a good amount.

Just 3km from the Taj Mahal
The ITC Mughal is by far one of the most luxurious hotels in Agra. Featuring 4 dining options and a gorgeous outdoor pool.
All rooms are finished to the highest of standards and feature the sorts of mod-cons you'd expect to find.
Including flat screen televisions and your own personal mini bar.
As well as their luxury restaurants, they offer other lounges, perfect for relaxing in the heat of the day or for having a pre-dinner cocktail.
They also offer a fitness centre for all guests and spa treatments can be arranged if you desire.
And yes, though 3km might sound like a long distance from the Taj Mahal, it really isn’t.
You can reach the Taj in as little as 10 minutes, as long as you leave nice and early (which you should!).

Just 600 metres from the Taj Mahal
The Oberoi is the pinnacle of luxury hotels in Agra.
Not only is it ridiculously close, being just 600 metres away, but the grounds in and around the resort are truly astounding.
From above, the Oberoi literally looks like a royal palace, and you’ll no doubts feel like royalty right up from the minute you arrive.
All rooms are opulently decorated in true Indian style and design and are furnished with comfortable beds and sofas.
Making them the ultimate place to retreat to and relax in after a busy day spent exploring the nearby Taj Mahal and other attractions.
Not that you’d want to leave! On-site you can enjoy lounging by the pool under the warm Indian sun.
And by night, you get to dine at the high-quality, on-site restaurant offering a range of classic Indian dishes to sample.
Best price deals for The Oberoi Amarvilas Agra:
Just 4.5km from the Taj Mahal
When we were deciding where to stay in Agra, we very nearly chose the Hilton!
It is certainly one of the nicest 5 star hotels in Agra city and comes at a very reasonable price per night.
Just like the Radisson Blu, they also have a luscious outdoor swimming pool, comfortable and modern rooms, as well as an on-site fitness centre.
They are slightly further out from the Taj Mahal, being a little over 4 km.
But this still isn't very far and you can be there within 15 minutes if you head out nice and early in the morning.
Aside from all the conveniences you’d expect at a luxury resort in Agra, you have 2 high-class restaurants on-site.
As well as a cafe, deli and food store.
Best price deals for DoubleTree by Hilton Agra:
That’s right, if you're looking for mid-range resorts in Agra near to the Taj Mahal, you don't even have to stoop to 3 stars!
There are a range of 4 star hotels available, all coming in very affordably.
So you can still treat yourself to a spot of luxury, without having to break the bank.
Just 500 metres from the Taj Mahal
Taj resorts is ridiculously close to the Taj Mahal, being just 500 metres away!
Meaning it’s nicely outside the hustle and bustle of Agra City and just a short morning walk to the Taj Palace complex.
On-site, you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Including a large outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant and even a sauna.
All rooms are nicely furnished with all the amenities you might require, such as WiFi and flat-screen televisions.
They even offer a complimentary pick-up service from the railway station.
Best price deals for Taj Resort Agra:
Just 3.3km from the Taj Mahal
The Grand Imperial also offers a wonderful balance of price and quality for those looking for 4 star hotels near to the Taj Mahal.
What's nice is that they offer classic Indian styled rooms, meaning you aren't staying in a typical hotel room.
Which is one way in which the Grand Imperial really appealed to me above the Radisson.
You can spend all day enjoying the facilities they offer.
Including their on-site spa, swimming pool and top quality restaurants.
Guests also particularly enjoy the well-manicured gardens around the property.
Making this a truly relaxing getaway from the busyness of cities like Agra.
Best price deals for Heritage Hotel Agra:
Just 500 metres from the Taj Mahal
Hotel Atulyaa Taj is easily one of the best 4 star hotels in Agra near the Taj.
Simply because they also offer rooftop views of the Taj Mahal itself!
Few hotels offer genuine views of the Taj and, being just 500 metres away, Hotel Atulyaa is in a truly prime location.
As well as this, the hotel offers all of the top quality services you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.

Just because you want good quality accommodation in Agra near the Taj Mahal, it doesn't mean you need to shell out loads of cash.
In fact, the blocks of streets all around the Taj Mahal offer tonnes of hostels and hotels, all ranging in price and service offered.
Here’s the 3 best value for money, budget options we could find.
Just 1.6km metres from the Taj Mahal
At just $8 a night, Rhine Hostel is literally a steal!
You are less than 2km than the Taj, making you closer than many of the aforementioned, more expensive options.
Best of all, you don't have to sleep in a dorm room, seeing as this budget price accounts for a double room, and not a bunk bed!
Yes, rooms are relatively basic. But they are clean, comfortable and offer all the space you need.
The hostel is known for having a warm, friendly vibe and is great for budget backpackers looking for close, easy access to the Taj Mahal in the morning.

Just 2.2km from the Taj Mahal
Max Guest House also offers great quality, budget double rooms near to the Taj Mahal.
Their highest quality rooms offer both a fan and air conditioning; and if you go for the lowest option available, then you will still get a fan.
And, if you are visiting in the warm Summer months then I’d highly recommend opting for an air-conditioned room for a few dollars extra.
You can enjoy nice, home-cooked meals at the on-site restaurant, all cooked by Max's mum for just 400 rupees.
Afterwards, mingle with other guests in the evening and talk about your experience of the Taj Mahal in Agra.

If you are looking for a low price hotel in Agra near the Taj Mahal, with great reviews, then this is a great choice
For just $13 you get to stay less than 2km from the Taj.
All rooms come with their own private bathroom and all the other amenities of good quality hotel rooms.
But the main selling point is that each room has its own terrace.
Making this the perfect place to relax in the evening after a busy day spent exploring Agra.
